Etched copper serpent with vintage mourning beads, blue labradorite rondel beads and black glass beads with a copper magnetic clasp.

All of our beaded offerings are intuitively constructed by me and are OOAK.

Mourning jewelry dates back to the 1600s and gained huge popularity in the 1800s when Queen Victoria mourned the death of her beloved Albert. Although black beads were originally used in jewelry to mourn the death of a loved one they gained such popularity that they became quite fashionable and were used in all jewelry throughout the Victorian era. They were made from several natural black stones as well as glass. These particular beads are made of black onyx.

Labradorite aptly name after the province Labrador where it is found in Canada is also called fire stone. The Inuit’s were known to crush it up into powder form and use it to heal ailments and according to Inuit legend a warrior saw the northern lights in the rocks and struck them with his spear to free some of the lights.

labradorite is considered a stone of transformation and is also considered the most powerful protector stone it creates a shield for auras and protects against negativity.
